Your first physiotherapy visit
Make your goals part of the conversation.
Start with your priorities.
Choose one everyday activity you would like to discuss: walking to the shops, returning to work or enjoying a favourite sport. Write down your questions and bring relevant records and a current medicine list for the clinician.
Ask about the practical details.
Ask how the assessment will work, what clothing is helpful and how access needs can be accommodated. Discuss appointment costs, coverage and cancellation policies before booking.
Keep the decision informed.
Ask for an explanation of the proposed plan, alternatives and how progress will be reviewed. Any home activity should follow your clinician’s individual advice; a general online routine cannot account for your circumstances.
Take these questions with you.
- What would a suitable assessment involve?
- What benefits, risks and alternatives should I understand?
- What will the appointments and follow-up cost?
- How will we review the plan and decide next steps?
